It was a case of double celebrations for SimpsInns at last week’s SLTN Awards as the family owned hospitality group brought not one but two prestigious awards back home to Ayrshire.
SimpsInns owners Malcolm and Karen Simpson and their team set off for the Glasgow Hilton for the glittering awards night, hosted by none other than Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges, who had the 700-strong audience in raptures.
Team SimpsInns were up for two awards on the night after The Waterside was shortlisted for the ‘Best Outdoor Area’ (Sponsored by Magners) and Si! Café:Bar:Restaurant/Si! Italia was nominated for the ‘Inspiration Award’ sponsored by McEwan’s.
To get down to the last three in each of the categories was a great feat against such stiff competition from all over Scotland. However, the night would turn into something special after one award was quickly followed by another as both The Waterside and Si! won their respective categories.
It meant SimpsInns made it an Ayrshire double, double for at last year’s SLTN Awards Malcolm Simpson was named ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ and The Waterside won the ‘Refurbishment of the Year’ accolade within a year of first opening.
“I can’t tell you how pleased we are to have won these two prestigious awards,” beamed Malcolm Simpson shortly after receiving the Inspiration Award from Bridges.
“All the team has worked so hard to make this possible. I am absolutely delighted for Si! for we took a chance on this £2million redevelopment – supported by the Irvine Bay Regeneration Programme - and in many ways stepped out of our comfort zone to create this stunning bar and restaurant venue.
“SimpsInns has been fortunate to build up a strong reputation for food across all our venues and now with Si! and Si! Italia our product offering has become even more diverse, yet we still offer the same high quality of product and service at affordable prices.”
In the Inspiration category, judges were looking for a standout venue, something which made the industry and customers alike stand up and take notice – a venue that also makes a real contribution. Si! very much fits this criteria and has become one of the key employers in the Irvine area.
In The Waterside’s case it is easy to see why this stunning venue in West Kilbride landed the Best Outdoor Area with its private veranda and garden area enjoying panoramic views across the Clyde and over to Arran.
Part of the awards submission was to illustrate how the venue utilised the outdoor space and integrates with the local community. This has been done with on-going initiatives such as The annual Scarecrow Festival or the Secret Santa dash for all the family.
All told, it turned out to be a stunning night in Glasgow and made all the sweeter after two prestigious SLTN Awards were brought back to Ayrshire.
