The Old Loans Inn, part of the privately owned SimpsInns hotel group based in the heart of Ayrshire, reached dizzy new heights this week after beingannounced as winner of the Scottish Licenses Trade News (SLTN) award in thecategory of “Best New Business” for 2010.
Based in the village of Loans near Troon, The Old Loans Inn was shortlisted for theprestigious award before taking top plaudits at the glittering ceremony hosted byTV personality Tess Daly at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Thursday night.
The much sought-after SLTN awards, now in their 15th year, identify stars of the hospitality industry with the category of “Best New Business” fiercely contested after organisers received hundreds of entries across Scotland.
“We are delighted to have won such a prestigious award, especially so soon after the £1.8million redevelopment programme invested in the new-look boutique 20-bedroom hotel, restaurant and country pub at the Old Loans Inn,” said Malcolm Simpson of SimpsInns, owner of the Old Loans Inn Restaurant and Hotel.
“The award is tremendous acknowledgement for all the effort, commitment and dedication that our entire team deliver on an ongoing basis.”
Once all nominations were received a panel of industry experts made visits to the shortlist properties to account for all aspects of the business; from initial idea to the planning and commercial success since opening plus future plans for development.
The Old Loans Inn was acquired in 1996 when just a village pub with no food offering. SimpsInns built it up to become a successful multi-million pound business, renowned for its warm, friendly service and excellent produce.
Throughout the redevelopment programme, The Old Loans Inn kept all the traditional values of a country pub but, in moving with the times, created a brand new bar and restaurant. In addition the property boasts 20 traditio
nal, yet contemporary, brand new bedrooms and suites, all uniquely-designed to cater for modern needs.
The Old Loans Inn has also been nominated for Hotel of the Year in the Golf Tourism Scotland Gold Standards Awards, which celebrate the very best in Scottish Golf Tourism. With this nomination we are now in the running for four awards over the next month.
This is a particularly exciting time at SimpsInns with the announcement of two further developments for North Ayrshire. Work has commenced on a new continental style bar and restaurant at the former site of The Golf Hotel, Kilwinning Road, Irvine plus The Waterside Inn in Seamill is set to be transformed into a five-star hotel and spa.
